Use case: class packs

Class packs and prepaid credits for dance studios.

A class pack is a block of prepaid credits a dancer buys once and spends on classes over time. Floorwork sells packs, tracks the balance, and decrements a credit as each booking is made, for $199 per month per studio.

What class packs are and why studios sell them

A class pack, sometimes called a punch card, a class pass, or a credit bundle, is a fixed number of classes a dancer pays for up front and then uses across future visits. Buy a ten-class pack, and you have ten credits sitting on your account, ready to spend one at a time.

For an adult drop-in dancer, a pack is the friendly middle ground between paying full price every single visit and committing to a monthly membership they might not use. They pay once, usually at a per-class discount, and stop reaching for a card at the door each week.

For the studio, packs do two useful things at once. They pull revenue forward, because the money lands when the pack is bought rather than spread across ten separate visits, and they raise the odds a dancer comes back, because an unused credit is a small standing reason to return to the floor.

Why dancers and studios reach for packs

Cash flow up front
A pack collects the full amount on purchase, so the studio is paid before the classes are taken rather than one drop-in at a time.
A reason to come back
A remaining balance is a gentle nudge. Dancers who hold credits return more often than dancers who decide fresh every week.
A discount that fits drop-in life
Packs reward commitment with a lower per-class price without forcing the monthly auto-charge that scares casual dancers off.
Less friction at the door
A dancer with credits books in a tap. No card, no checkout, no front-desk line before class starts.

How class packs work on Floorwork

Packs are part of the booking and payments engine, not a bolt-on. The buying, the balance, and the spending all live on the studio apex domain alongside the schedule.

A dancer buys a pack the same way they buy a single class: inline on your own site, paying through Stripe Connect with your studio as the merchant of record. The purchase lands the credits on their account immediately, and your studio name, not a platform name, is what shows on the card statement.

When that dancer books a class, Floorwork checks their balance, applies one credit to the booking, and decrements the pack by one. The remaining balance is visible in their account, so a dancer always knows how many classes they have left before they need to buy again.

Because credits and attendance share one system, the student CRM in the studio app shows each dancer's booking history and current pack balance side by side. Staff do not reconcile a paper punch card against a separate spreadsheet, and a dancer never argues a count that the system already tracked.

Drop-in versus pack, and how dancers choose

Floorwork does not force a choice on your roster. The same class can be booked as a single drop-in or paid for with a pack credit, and a dancer picks whichever they hold. A first-timer pays drop-in, likes the class, buys a pack, and spends credits from then on, all without leaving your site.

You set the prices. A drop-in is your full single-class rate, and a pack is whatever per-class discount you want to offer for buying in bulk. The studio decides how big the gap is, which is the lever that turns occasional drop-ins into pack-holding regulars.

What is included today

Sell multi-class packs
Offer packs of credits dancers buy inline on your domain, paid through Stripe with the studio as merchant of record.
Balance tracking
Each pack purchase adds credits to the dancer's account, visible to them and to staff in the student CRM.
Automatic decrement
Booking a class spends one credit and lowers the balance, with no manual punch-card upkeep.
Drop-in alongside packs
The same class accepts a single drop-in payment or a pack credit, so dancers use whatever they hold.
Studio-set pricing
You set the drop-in rate and the per-class pack discount, controlling the gap that drives bulk buys.

On the roadmap, to be honest about it

A few pack refinements that studios ask for are planned rather than shipped. We would rather name them plainly than imply they exist today.

Credit expiry windows
Setting packs to expire a fixed number of days after purchase is on the roadmap, not live yet.
Low-balance prompts
Nudging a dancer to re-up when they are down to their last credit or two is planned for a future release.
Pack-specific reporting
Breakouts of pack sales, redemption rate, and outstanding credit liability are coming, not shipped today.

Class packs FAQ

What is a class pack?
A class pack is a block of prepaid class credits a dancer buys once and spends over time. A ten-class pack puts ten credits on the dancer's account, and each booking spends one credit until the balance runs out, usually at a lower per-class price than a single drop-in.
How do prepaid credits work on Floorwork?
A dancer buys a pack inline on your own domain through Stripe, which adds the credits to their account immediately. When they book a class, Floorwork applies one credit and decrements the balance by one. The remaining count is visible to the dancer and to staff in the student CRM, with no paper punch card to reconcile.
Can dancers still pay drop-in instead of using a pack?
Yes. The same class accepts a single drop-in payment or a pack credit, and the dancer chooses whichever they hold. A first-timer can pay drop-in, then buy a pack and switch to spending credits, all without leaving your site.
Do class pack credits expire?
Not yet. Expiry windows that retire credits a set number of days after purchase are on the roadmap rather than shipped today. We name that plainly so you know what to expect. Right now credits stay on the account until they are spent.
How much do class packs cost to offer?
Class packs are part of the booking and payments engine included in the Floorwork plan at $199 per month per studio. There is no separate fee for selling packs. Additional studio locations are $49 per month each.
